Crafted Visions: The Tension Of Opposites, 2017

THIS GROUNDBREAKING EXHIBITION PLACES CONTEMPORARY JEWELRY AT THE INTERSECTION OF HUMANITY AND TECHNOLOGY, AROUSING THE SPIRIT OF(R)EVOLUTION.

I was invited to take part in Crafted Visions: The Tensions of Opposites by co-curator Ivy Ross. Ivy contacted me with a view to collaborate with the composer Mason Bates.

Mason agreed to grant me exclusive access to his score of the opera 'The (R)evolution of Steve Jobs'. It has been a privilege to work with Mason’s score. It provided me with a great opportunity to make new, exciting and original jewellery.

"Technology makes us more creative and amplifies what the mind and hands can do together. I like the tension of opposites that (Jobs) exposed. Jewelers and artists do the same" - Ivy Ross, co-curator of 'Crafted Visions', accomplished jewelry maker and respected Silicon Valley executive.

Five of the 13 artists represented in Crafted Visions use new technologies such as 3D printing and laser cutting.

The contrasts of simplicity and complexity, of art and technology inspire the makers. Those same creative impulses drove Jobs, the legendary founder of Apple, as he made his mark crafting a clear aesthetic, reaching beyond boundaries and breaking barriers.
